DynaTrap ½ Acre Mosquito and Insect Trap

Is your home and yard plagued by mosquitoes, biting flies, wasps, moths, Asian beetles, or stink bugs? The DynaTrap ½ Acre Mosquito and Insect Trap provides a simple and effective option for protecting your property. The lightweight, portable, and powerful all-weather trap is designed to provide protection up to ½ acre.

DynaTrap technology utilizes 3-way protection to defend your property against insect pests. First, the UV bulb generates warm light, which is highly attractive to many pest insects. Then a second lure, an exclusive Ti02 titanium dioxide-coated surface, produces a CO2 trail that mimics human breath. Once attracted to the unit, the powerful, whisper-quiet fan draws the insects and mosquitoes into the retaining cage where they dehydrate and die.

Why Choose DynaTrap?

Total Protection

Thanks to its ultra-quiet fan, this trap pulls insects into its retaining cage without zapping or buzzing. This makes it a great solution for removing flying insects at barbecues, parties, or evenings in the backyard. To avoid attracting insects to where you spend time, place the trap approximately 20-40 ft away from where people will be sitting.

What We Catch

DynaTrap Insect Traps catch a wide variety of pest insects known to plague homes. This trap is ideal for trapping mosquitoes, black flies, and other biting and stinging insects, as well as Asian lady beetles which are known to ravage gardens. This trap is not designed to attract honeybees and other beneficial insects.

How to Use

The DynaTrap ½ Acre Mosquito and Insect Trap was designed with ease of use in mind. The trap requires no propane, with additional attractants optional. Hang or place your trap on a flat surface in between insect breeding areas and people areas. Plug the trap in and keep it continuously running.

Description

Each DynaTrap Twist On/Off Mosquito and Insect Trap is simple to use; just twist the trap to turn it on or off and let it do the hard work for you. The trap is capable of protecting your home or property up to ½ acre. The DynaTrap Twist On/Off Mosquito and Insect Trap is the ideal solution to eliminate insects. The UV bulb, carbon dioxide-emitting coating, and the whisper-quiet fan all work together to effectively break the insect breeding cycle and eliminate pesky backyard visitors. To clean, simply twist off the retaining cage and empty. A cleaning brush is included for your convenience.

I found it worked somewhat. Plenty of moths, ladybugs and even a wasp or two and if you fish through the huge pile of dead insects you will find a fair amount of mosquitos. I put some octenol in the bottom just today to see if this will entice even more into "ze trap!" I''ve done a ton of research and apparently the UV light will not attract bloodsuckers of any type. Co 2 emission (what we exhale after we breath in oxygen) body heat and pheromones are what attract our little insectos bastardos, thus, I am assuming it is the other insects dying in the catch tray and the slight warmth of the uv light that is attracting the skeeters! Hopefully the octenol will lure even more to their cyclicly induced ends. The whole pitch about titanium dioxide coated parts along with the fan emanating the carbon dioxide is disingenuous, at best. The amount of CO2 produced this way is very negligible IF NON-EXISTENT,... nonetheless, the unit IS working! We can sit out in our 20 foot by 30 foot Brooklyn backyard w/o too much in the way of proboscis injection.
I am aware that letting it run 24/7 is best for the 6 week cycle which apparently will break their breeding cycle. Listen folks, I am a degreed mech. engineer w/a specialization in applied sciences and this contraption should NOT work so well but, it does! Go Figure??!! BTW, cost co sells ''em cheaper online and they ship them with 2 extra bulbs inside! You save BIG TIME, brothers and sisters!
UPDATE: 9/30/19...….still going strong. Please note that in order to extend the life of this unit you should take it down and maintain (take it apart and clean thoroughly inside and out including the fan and it''s connection) every 4-6 months depending on the environment/weather conditions where you are!
Hey folks,...I spend a small fortune in time, energy, and money on stuff that I buy and use here on amazon so, if this review was HELPFUL,...well you know what to do! many thanks fellow consumers!

I live in the South and I love being outdoors in the Summer. Those are my credentials. I am also an expert in getting eaten alive by mosquitos. I''ve tried everything. Nothing has ever worked, until we bought our Dynatrap. I don''t know the science or why it works, it just does. Sometimes, after 40+ years fighting these bugs, it''s fine not to ask any questions. To just sit back with some sweet, sweet tea (actually I hate sweet tea, but I''m setting y''all a Southern Moment here), on my porch and not be mosquito food. It''s very liberating. I''ve even stopped spraying myself. And, wait for it, I have shown a nude ankle at twilight on an 80 degree night. Mic drop. Boom. I know right, so why not 5 stars? I would have given this product full marks, except that mine is a Modern house and the trap is ugly AF. But, being able to sit out doors is worth any amount of grotesque and I''d sooner redesign my house to suit the Dynatrap than go without it. That''s how well it works.

I did sort of a ridiculous amount of research before buying this thing, and I’m very happy with it.

But, my research not only led me to select a mosquito trap, but also to modify my thinking in what to expect from a mosquito trap. There are also some drawbacks, and claims made in this ad that I wouldn’t support. Still, it is pretty terrific, and a solid purchase.

1) It says indoor/outdoor. I wouldn’t agree with that. This would be complete overkill for indoor and probably not that effective. It is not silent. It has a fan that’s always going. This creates a low-key fan noise. It’s not loud, but I wouldn’t want to listen to it all the time. Also, while it attracts mosquitoes, it does not attract mosquitos better than you do. That leads me to my next point.

2) This is not a human protection device. This is a mosquito population reduction device. You can’t think of it as an instant fix. It’s not like “I’m throwing a party, let me get the trap out”. That would probably attract more mosquitos to the party. If you stand next to the trap, the mosquitos will attack you rather than going in the trap. But, while humans are not around, the trap will eliminate dozens of them a night.

So, this is in no way a quick fix for mosquitoes. It is, however, a very effective part of a solution.

Mosquitoes, as evil as they are, have a weakness: they are not strong fliers. They are optimized for stealth, and don’t travel very far or very quickly.

If you think of a mosquito population as a bucket filled with water, this puts a leak in the bucket. Day by day, little by little, there will be less and less water in the bucket.

My trap has been up for only a few days, and it’s killed around 50 mosquitos. When I go outside, there are still mosquitos, but 50 less than there would have been.

Over time, I imagine that there will be fewer and fewer. Probably never “none” but a whole lot less than there would have been.

I’ll report again in a few months to see if this has occurred as expected, but it has certainly killed a large number of mosquitos.

3) Also, it kills moths. Probably 1 moth for every 3 mosquitos. The packaging tries to get around this by saying moths are bad, but I like moths. I’m willing to kill them to protect my kids from mosquitos, but I do feel bad for them. I think it’s acceptable collateral damage, but I would be happy to kill a few less mosquitoes to save some moth lives. Maybe they could design a new model with a finer grating to protect larger insects.

Also, I live in Northern California. In my research I discovered that there are dozens of species of mosquitos, so I can’t confirm that the trap will be effective in all ecosystems, but it seems to work well for the ones we have locally.

Updated with a photo. About 10 days of trap. I couldn’t be bothered to count them, but probably around 200, and far more mosquitos than any other type of insect.

Update #2.
This is the second year with the trap(s), and I had to do an update because the results are so dramatic. I left it on until the rainy season started, and turned them back on when the rainy season was ending. I bought new bulbs which it recommended after 4 months, but I’d gone 12, and finally emptied the traps which I’d been neglecting. Hol-e-mol-e. There were thousands of mosquitos in there. I should have added another picture, but I doubted the slightly moldy black mass would photograph well. It was like the biomass of a large rat. THOUSANDS. I didn’t expect it since most of the time it was running was not peak mosquito season, and I was shocked. But, more importantly, mosquito season hasn’t happened this year. Usually, in April, they’re out in force... but there have been basically none. I see one once in a while, but it’s like seeing a butterfly or something. None of this 4 attacking at once stuff I’d become accustomed to. Not seeing any outside, I though, maybe it’s a drought year and there aren’t too many, but when I look into the trap, it seems to be catching 10-20 a night.

So it’s really working. Our mosquito problem is basically solved. We have two traps on 3/4 of an acre, and mosquitos are simply not a problem so far this year, where every other year they’re starting to get pretty bad by this part of the season. We just had an outdoor-only get together with half a dozen kids, and I literally didn’t see a mosquito for the duration of the party, where in previous years I’d routinely be dousing the kids in repellent and have been constantly preoccupied swatting and clapping them. It’s just a shocking transformation. For some reason I guess I assumed that the mosquito populations would sort of reset every season , but it seems the effects of the trap are at least partially cumulative from year to year. I’ll update again if the mosquitos rebound in May or June, but for now, pretty much the only mosquitos I see are the ones riding in the trap.

These are great, the only part that is gross it the clean up. I''ve seen a noticeable difference in the number of mosquitos. I live in a heavily wooded, tree, shade/bush area (see pictures). My biggest recommendation is to make sure you get rid of any sitting water that reduced our problem by 50%. I had to drill small holes in our roof gutters as they weren''t draining completely. Another issue I think some people who complain about it not working need to read how to effectively deploy these. I put this device in areas where I get flocked by mosquitos (it''s near our pool equipment, prior to deployment I''d get 10-15 on me within seconds) but about 20ft away from where we will be. Most mosquitos don''t travel more than 25-40ft from where they hatch. The instructions say to put this 20ft from where you will be, so I put this in vegetation that sits near the pool where I think many of the mosquitos come from. I then went on the other side of the pool and put another Dynatrap about 20ft from where we would be. I have a huge yard (1.5acres) so I figured having two would be enough. We get a TON of bugs, fyi. The mosquito lifecycle is around 6weeks so for maximum effectiveness this needs to run for 5 more weeks but I''d say I''m happy with my purchase. Remember that these are only as effective as how you deploy them! Also make sure the area doesn''t have a competing light source. So this is in an extremely dark area at night with no other light so it is a huge beacon. Good luck.

Absolutely life changing. The no-see-ums made it impossible to sit on our pool deck/patio. I had tried DIY pest control and expensive exterminators and the tiny blood suckers just came right back after a couple days. Be patient. It took about a week for significant improvement and 2-3 weeks of running 24/7 to say I am now bug free. Unfortunately it kills a lot of moths. That’s sad because I really have no bone to pick or axe to grind with the moths but some casualties are necessary to get my pool back. Twice a week I dump the basket into my chicken coop. The girls go crazy!

I put this up a few days ago - kind of skeptical, but hopeful for some resolution for my NJ monster mosquitos. Holy moly. I cleaned the trap today and there were thousands of mosquitos. The trap was halfway filled and it''s only been about five days of use. This is really something. Easy to assemble and clean. Make sure you clean the trap away from anything you don''t want to get contaminated. There were definitely some live bugs still flying around when I opened the trap. I''m surprised this worked. It looked like a gimmick. In my area, we have the Asian Tiger Mosquito. I can usually control them by spraying my yard during the summer until around September. Then it seems like there is nothing I can do to curtail them. However, a neighbor of mine had two Dynatraps. One in the front yard, one in the back. She swore by them. I said "well, I probably spend more than that on chemicals to control them in one year, so why not give it a try.

I''ve seen zero mosquitoes in my yard after only 3 weeks. Zero. This time of year, especially after the inundation my area got from Hurricane Irma, the mosquitoes run rampant. But... zero. None. I simply don''t believe it. I don''t know what voodoo is in that thing, but it works for me in my area (coastal Southeast). I run with two 1/2 acre models. Mainly because I didn''t think it could manage both the front and back yard with the house standing in the middle. Supposedly mosquitoes don''t fly very far, so I was concerned the backyard mosquitoes wouldn''t find their way to the frontyard trap.

I included a photo (gross). Lot of moths are visible, but if you take my word for it... I sifted in there and found mounds of mosquitoes.

I recently moved into a new build that backs onto a drainage pond. It''s beautiful but that beauty comes with a ton of insect life in the spring and summer. I needed something to reduce the number of mosquitos and flies in the area so we could enjoy our deck. I also knew I didn''t want a big propane powered unit as they are expensive and not necessarily environmentally friendly. I bought this unit and set it up as per the instructions, about 20 ft from my deck. I''ve only had the unit up for one night but it''s caught a ton of flies and mosquitos. See picture attached. I''ll update this review in a few months but so far this unit seems worth the purchase. My only gripe would be the power cord routing. Skeptical of this product but my friend had good thins to say so I bought one too. Aside note: I bough this 1/2 acre version for 108$ on amazon , it was open box and came looking totally brand new with three UV bulbs. Very ver good value as regular price is 180$. Setup is no Brainer. Its all ready to go out of the box. You just need to find a way to plug it in 24/7. Bulb is already installed and you get two extra for another season. One bulb should be enough for an ottawa summer because we only get 3 months of summer here. I hung my trap on anshephers plant hook. Plugged it into my pool shed outlets. The machine is just a UV light and a fan that runs and sucks the insect inside and dehydrates them to die. The operation is very silent you can''t hear anything other than a very quiet fan sound that is audible only right next to the unit. Since this isn''t a "zapper" , its total quiet operation. Only after 1 day I was curious . So I checked one nights capture. I caught a good 50 mosquitoes. And a hand full of moths. Not bad for one night. So far I''m actually impressed bexasue my "zapping" trap never caught anything but moths and other flying insects. This one actually visibly caught mosquitoes. I will update when 2 weeks pass and I can notice a reduction in pests. For now I''m giving it 4 stars. Mainly because this is plastic and not great build quality. I expect some metal and weather resistant construction. Its going to be outside in the elements for 3 months a year. The black plastics will fade and look unpleasant. I would prefer at this price tag some metal construction.
